Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have trouble breathing at night and during the day, and my mouth remains closed the whole day.
My nose remains blocked throughout the day, and even after cleaning it, it becomes blocked again within five minutes. I have been facing this problem for two years.
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Your symptoms, continuous nasal blockage, inability to breathe through the nose, and complete loss of smell for nearly two years, strongly point toward severe chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps.
This condition often causes persistent obstruction and does not improve with routine nasal cleaning or standard medical therapy.
If you have not yet undergone endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS), discuss this option with your ear, nose, and throat (ENT) specialist, as it is often required when medications fail.
If you have already had surgery and symptoms have returned, you may be a candidate for biologic therapy, a newer treatment that targets specific inflammatory pathways and has strong evidence for reducing polyp size, improving breathing, and restoring smell in severe or recurrent cases.
Continue general measures such as allergen control, regular cleaning, using air purifiers, and changing pillowcases to help reduce triggers and inflammation. Ensure your allergies are well-managed, as they can worsen sinus and nasal symptoms.
Seek urgent medical attention if you develop facial pain or swelling, high fever, or any vision changes.
Given the severity of your nasal obstruction, computed tomography (CT) scan findings showing polyps, and poor response to usual treatments, discussing advanced treatment options, including biologic medications, is an important next step to improve your breathing and overall quality of life.
I hope this information helps you.
Thank you.
