Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My son is 15 years old. His neutrophils count became 1000 from the first one which was 800 a week. After 15 days, again the neutrophil count is 800 now with a total WBC of 2600. He is healthy, active, and has no infection. Please note that his dad had a blood count this week and his neutrophils were also 1500. Please give me your opinion.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Based on your query, my opinion is as follows:

  1. If the neutrophil counts are varying, it means there is no vaccine-induced or nutritional, or genetic defect.
  2. As the other entire cell values including RBC and platelets are normal, these values must be normal for him. Healthy, active, and with no infections means the body is functioning well against all infections.
  3. There are few inherited conditions with inherited neutropenia; however, they manifest at birth with counts less than 500 or still less than 200.
  4. The father's neutrophil count of 1500 and the kid not having any neutropenia symptoms do not support any inherited cause.
  5. There is nothing necessary to be done, except continue with a protein-rich diet and a balanced diet.
  6. No medications or management is necessary at present. Continuing the same should be adequate. Unless he has any serious infection, no need to repeat counts for now.

Investigations to be done

Nothing necessary for now. If any serious infection, then evaluation maybe necessary.

Treatment plan

Continue usual lifestyle with a protein rich diet.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
