Nitrates are drugs used to reduce angina, chest pain, etc., caused by arteries. The most common side of nitrates are the headache. This is caused due to the vasodilation of the cerebral arteries. The headache lasts up to one to one and a half hours after nitrate intake. Over-the-counter medications are used to reduce headaches.
