Does placing hand on one place for long time cause numbness?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been having numbness for the last few days on half of my left hand and little finger. I was working in an IT company. I think it happened because of my eight hours of work time as I placed my hand on the table using the keyboard for a long time. I have used the hand strengtheners for exercise, but I have numbness. It occurs only on the left hand. What is your opinion? Is there any other reason for this?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. The numbness is mostly due to pressure anesthesia of the nerve. Try to change hand posture. Avoid long sitting in one position. Get your vitamin B12 and D3 levels checked as deficiency of these can also cause similar symptoms.

Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
