Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

What is the importance of eating breakfast in teens? Please comment on it. Why so many teens do not have breakfast? Is it due to hormones? How important is it for them to eat? What are some ways to get something nutritious into their system before going to school?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

The teens especially adolescent groups people are very irregular in their breakfast and meal habits. After waking up, your body needs glucose and nutrients to work properly for the whole day. So, taking breakfast is a good habit. It should be consumed daily like bread and butter or biscuit or pasta, etc. Sometimes parents do not have the habit of taking breakfast and so the child is also not taking it. You can reduce food in lunch and meals. But breakfast is essential to maintain immunity.

If a child or an adolescent person is not taking food in enough quantity, then rule out hypothyroidism by serum TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone) estimation. I hope this helps.
