Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My wife is 23 years old. She is the mother of one daughter and is a little obese and she wants to reduce the weight. She has tried many exercises and diet plans but all failed. Her height is 5.1 feet and her weight is 176 lbs. Please suggest her to reduce the weight.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Compared to your wife's height her weight is high. She has to maintain her weight below 136 lbs. First of all, we have to find whether there is any underlying cause for this. Do thyroid function tests to rule out thyroid disease. Do USG (ultrasound) to rule out PCOD (polycystic ovary disease). These are the most common disease that causes an increase in weight.

Regular use of steroids can also increase weight. Do the tests and review them with results. If you do not have any of the above we can reduce the weight just by regular diet. Do follow up to get a complete weight reduction diet chart.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Yes, she has thyroid problem but she is taking 75 mg Altroxin every day before breakfast. Therefore thyroid is under control. She also has PCOS but here doctors told me that it is not a problem for her.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

So your wife is having both thyroid and PCOS but are under control. Alright, first you have to know some basic things about PCOS. PCOS is a common hormonal disorder in women. That makes it difficult for the body to use the hormone insulin, which is essential to convert sugar in food into energy. This condition is called insulin resistance. So the high insulin level increases the production of the male hormone androgen. This results in weight gain, body hair growth, and acne. Obesity may result in diabetes, hypertension.

Here are some of the tips to reduce weight:

1. Tablet Metformin is a diabetic drug that helps the body to use insulin more effectively. It can be used in PCOS. 2. Eat high fiber, low sugar diet.

3. Avoid junk foods and fatty foods.

4. Excercise regularly, at least half an hour a day.

5. Drink at least three liters of water a day.

Here is a model diet chart to reduce weight:

For breakfast, two wheat bread and egg white. Midmeal- green tea and one fruit of your choice. For lunch- half a cup of brown rice with boiled vegetables. Avoid potato. Before 12 PM you should finish drinking 6 cups of water.

In the evening take green tea and fruit salad. For dinner take two wheat dosa or bread (Indian food item). You have to finish dinner before 7 PM and also another 6 cups of water by this time. Try this for three months you will see the difference.

I hope this helps.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
