Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 28-year-old male, and I do not have any medical condition besides that I am overweight, maybe obese class 1, with a height of 6.04 ft and weight between 231.48-253.53 lb. Last few months ago, I noticed that, sometimes, when I am about to fall asleep, I make a snoring sound while I am conscious (right before falling asleep), but it is uncomfortable since I notice it. It feels like it is something happening between my nose and throat. I am not sure, but it does make a snoring sound while I breathe in. It does not feel like I am choking or losing my breath but more like a blockage of the airway through the nose. What could this be? Could my weight gain have something to do with it because I did not have this before?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

A lot of causes can produce this snoring. They include: 1. There are nasal causes that need an endoscopic examination to be diagnosed. 2. Your soft palate may be large enough to vibrate while sleeping, which can be diagnosed by oral inspection. Capture a photo of your throat using your mobile phone camera and send it to me. Sure, your weight plays a great role. The more you lose fat, the more you will lose snoring.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I have sent you some pictures of my throat, which I have managed to take. Regards.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

From the picture provided (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity), I would suggest that you might need an operation to elevate your soft palate and uvula (fleshy extension which hangs above the throat). Still, it has to be decided after losing your extra weight and monitoring the results.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
