Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My 2.6 years old son is suffering from stomach gas since last month. Every night he wakes up from his sleep crying. He got an OPV yesterday morning, and we gave him Neopeptine 5 ml tonight for the stomach problem. I am scared that I gave him the syrup after OPV. Is there any risk associated with it? When is it safe to take Neopeptine after OPV vaccination? Are there any chances of it affecting my son? Please help me. And can you suggest something for his stomach problem?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

1. Neopeptine (combination of Pepsin and Alpha-amylase) is an absolutely safe medicine even if given alone or with any other medicine or any vaccine. It is the best medicine for abdominal pain.

2. Regarding stomach upset, keep a check on the appetite of the child as to what is causing stomach upset and what is not. Whenever there is an abdominal pain, you can use Neopeptine.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

My son has worms, so he was given Mebex syrup two times after meal for three days. Is this dose correct? He suffered from mild cold and sneezing during this winter. Is it wise to give him any worm medicine for his condition? What are the signs and symptoms of having worms? If the sign and symptom are not so prevalent, is it advisable to wait for a month and see? What harm will happen if medicines are delayed for three months?

Another issue is that he wakes up 2 to 3 times at night. What is the cause? After he gets up, he sleeps on his belly for the rest of the night. Why does he sleep like that? Should I be concerned?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

1. The dose of Mebex (Mebendazole) that you have been given is slightly on the higher side. I give only 10 ml once at night for a single dose. The medicine is harmless as such when the child is having a cold and sneezing.

2. The reason why the child wakes up at night is probably due to abdominal colic or maybe even worm infestation. In either of these cases, you will use the same medicines that are Neopeptine and Mebex.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
