Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I had sexual intercourse with a sex worker last week. I had a small cut on my penis approximately a few hours before the intercourse. We had oral sex for a few seconds without protection. But I used protection while having vaginal intercourse. Do I need to worry as I did not use protection during oral sex?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

We are here to help you. But before advising anything, please be careful and always use protection during sexual intercourse, especially with sex workers. Avoid oral sex and unprotected vaginal or anal penetration while you have cuts over the genitalia.

Oral sex for a few seconds is usually safe in an intact penis. But you need to check for HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) and HBsAg (hepatitis-B surface antigen) testing for you and your sex partner because there was a cut over your genitalia. Suppose those tests are negative, then you are safe. Even if you cannot do the tests, there are a few chances of getting any disease. But be careful of future interactions.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

Can you tell me when and which tests should I take?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

You should get tested immediately after unprotected sexual intercourse with a sex worker. First, check for HIV (human immunodeficiency virus), HBsAg (hepatitis-B surface antigen), VDRL (venereal disease research laboratory test), and HCV (hepatitis-C virus) antibodies by testing you and your partner. Then after one month and after six months. If all are negative, then there is nothing to worry about.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
