Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

During intercourse, we faced difficulty in penetration though I lost my virginity. After so many tries, we finally had full penetration, but it was severely painful. After my last sexual intercourse, I started having slight bleeding that did not stop for a whole month. I would like to know what is wrong with me? Why is the penetration still painful?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thanks for the query. There can be multiple causes for painful intercourse.

1) Intercourse for the first time will be painful because of the hymen tear, and some bleeding may occur due to hymen rupture.

2) The bleeding may be repeated for the next two to three sexual episodes as parts of the remaining hymen can still bleed.

3) The pain is usually due to tight vaginal muscles, which can prevent penetration. And also, if the lubrication is inadequate and one tries to insert, then vaginal abrasion can occur due to friction. This can cause pain that lasts for a week.

4) The other reason could be vaginismus or painful penetration, which would require gynecological help.

The bleeding, which lasted for a month, could be due to cervicitis or cervical erosions. A speculum examination can diagnose it by a gynecologist.

Regards.
