What could be the reason for an abnormal pap smear, painful sex, and frequent urination after ovary removal?

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Just last week, I got a pap smear and just got the results.

Pap smear: Abnormal high-grade cells HPV positive. Last year around this time, it was the same thing. Five years ago, I had my right ovary removed and part of my left, and since then times it has hurt to have sex and have to use the bathroom, and I have to pee like five to six times in a row. What can this be? Could it be the same thing?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your query.

HPV (human papillomavirus) type 16, 18 is famous for causing cervical carcinoma. First, affecting the cervix by damaging its normal cells. Suppose a cervical smear comes positive for HPV with abnormal texture. In that case, it needs urgent follow-ups in the colposcopy clinic (biopsy) and detailed radiological investigations to evaluate the extent of cancer or abnormality are suggested.

What was the reason for ovary removal? You forgot to mention it here. But if it is a malignancy (carcinoma), I suggest you need urgent intervention for an abnormal pap smear (investigations).

Pelvic surgery, if it involves the ovary, deep pelvic tissues, or pelvic nerves, can cause pain for a long time during urination and sex, but you have this cervical pathology. As well, most probably, that also added to your symptoms. Further evaluation of symptoms is needed, as I described above.

Recurrent urination needs some local examination by a doctor and can be managed conservatively by exercise and fluid intake control. Discuss your detailed history with the treating consultant and previous surgical and medical. Use condoms, have strict hygiene, and check for symptoms.

I hope you find it helpful.

Best of luck.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
