Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been taking Paxil 40 mg for three weeks now as prescribed by my GP. I have been taking it for ROCD anxiety and depression. Today and yesterday my anxiety has begun to surface more. The first two and a half weeks I was great. I do not know if I should switch medication. Keep going with it or what? Is it possible for my anxiety to get worse around week three?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand you are experiencing a great deal of anxiety in the past two days in spite of being on medications. Has some stressful event taken place at your workplace or at home in these past two to three days? Generally, anxiety gets better with time with medications. If Paxil has helped you, it would not make any sense to switch the medicines abruptly. Instead, you can consider augmenting it. Along with Paxil, you can take tablet Etizolam 0.5 mg SOS as and when you feel very anxious. So Paxil can take care of the long-term anxiety and Etizola will help you in the short term. Along with medications, also look up Jacobson's progressive muscular relaxation exercises. It takes 20 to 30 seconds to do this exercise. If you do these exercises 3 to 4 times a day, it will help you gain significant control over your anxiety.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
