Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have an infection on my penis. I do not have any pain, burning, or itching, but it has been there for over a month now. It gets very dry, and so, I am applying Canesten cream for one week. I tested negative for all STDs. Kindly help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern. I saw the images (attachments removed to protect the patient’s identity). If there was unprotected sex, we need to think of sexually transmitted infections such as Treponema pallidum infection, Herpes, Chlamydia, and HIV (human immunodeficiency virus). If you have already done all the above tests and if it is negative, then no need to worry about STI (sexually transmitted infections). It can be a superficial bacterial infection for which you can use ointment T-Bact (Mupirocin) for local application and Doxycycline 100 mg twice a day for five days. If there is itching, kindly apply ointment Lobate-GM Neo (Clobetasol, Neomycin, and Miconazole) locally. And take tablet Allegra 120 mg (Fexofenadine) twice a day after food for five days. Make sure you wash your genital twice a day with normal water and do not use harsh soap. Take care.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thanks for the reply.

There is no itching. Should I assume this as a bacterial infection? I have not had any unprotected sex. Also, I have been tested negative for STDs. Does it look like bacterial infection? If so, how long should I take Doxycycline?

Thanks.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

If you are sure about not having any STI, you can plan for medication suggested above. If there is no itching, then we need to think of bacterial or viral infection. We need further investigations to rule out viral infection. Regards.
