Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 30-year-old healthy male. I got a painless red rash on the penis, which remained there for a couple of weeks. I do not have any other symptoms. I thought that it was eczema. But I got some relief when applying Clotrimazole cream.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for the query. I can understand your concern. According to your statement, you have been suffering from a painless red rash on the penis. According to the picture provided here (attachment removed to protect patient identity), you may suffer from atopic dermatitis or eczema. It is usually a chronic condition, and the symptoms of this condition may come and go. The most common symptom is a red rash or irritated spot in the genital area. Some triggering factors are exposure to allergens, skin irritants, stress, dry skin, and an infection that may trigger an atopic dermatitis flare. Mild topical steroids like Hydrocortisone cream or ointment can be used to treat atopic dermatitis. Applying Hydrocortisone cream or ointment twice daily on the affected area may help to fade the discoloration over time. Take care. In case of any other query, ask me.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

How long should I apply this cream? I have been using this cream (see upload) on and off, and I did not see any change in the discoloration.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Thank you for joining again. Topical Hydrocortisone is a mild steroid cream that is safe for the skin as steroids can thin the skin. You can apply Hydrocortisone cream on your affected area for three weeks. You should not use any steroid cream or ointment for more than three weeks. You can also apply the topical cream that is attached here called Clotrimazole and Betamethasone. It is essential to know that eczema or atopic dermatitis is a chronic skin condition. So, it will take time to disappear. Usually, symptoms of this skin condition may come and go, as I have already mentioned. You should avoid the triggering factors that may trigger an atopic dermatitis flare. Take care. Let me know if I can assist you further.
