Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My age is 52. I am facing gastric problems. This becomes severe in every 15 to 20 days. Followed by severe stomach pain and further chest pain. I have consulted doctor regarding this but according to them there is no serious issue. But I feel the pain is very high. I have already removed oily and chili food from my diet. I am following a simple diet. However, in every 15 to 20 days, I suffer from the symptoms very severely. Kindly, provide me a diet plan accordingly. Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.co.

What exactly do you eat? Do you follow the food timings? What time exactly you get the pain? Why is that you get pain only after 15 to 20 days? What about other days? Have you reached your menopause? Or do you get pain during your periods time? Please get back with the details.

Apart from the above questions, please do follow my advice. Follow the food timings properly. Eat at every 2-3 hours duration. Breakfast, lunch and dinner with intermittent snacks. For snacks, you can drink buttermilk or eat an elachi banana, papaya, apple or any fruits. Avoid citrus fruits if you get burning sensation. Reduce the intake of tamarind. It is allowed in rasam or sambar (Indian food variety). But avoid pickles, chutneys, etc. Avoid all kinds of junk foods, oily foods, spicy foods, rich sweets, sodas, etc. If you can tolerate high fiber foods like chapattis or ragi based foods, eat it. If not, avoid it initially and later we can slowly reintroduce it.

Go for bland foods. Try to stop taking the antacid. If you can manage with my food advice, stop the medications. Because ulcers are best managed by diet. Follow the advice for a week and get back with your information so that I can change my diet advice and give you accordingly. Go for brisk walking for 45 minutes or any other exercises everyday is recommended.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

My usual diet presently is-

Breakfast (9 AM): Raggi Sattu

Mid Meal (11.30 AM): Oats

Lunch (2.30 PM): Rice and vegetables like Pumpkin, Papaya and Carrots

Evening Snacks (7.00 PM): Green tea with ginger, turmeric, Tulsi and Biscuits or puffed rice

Dinner (9.30 PM): Rice (lesser quantity) and vegetables like Pumpkin, Papaya and Carrots

I also take intermittent snacks like cucumber, apple or biscuits. I never take any oily, deep fried or spicy food. No junk food at all. This diet I am following for more than a year.

The pain has no particular time during the day. Yes, I have reached menopause. I had removal of uterus operation. Earlier I used to get the pain monthly once, now it has reduced to once in 15-20 days. The pain initially feels like gas formation in stomach. Then it is followed by chest pain and heartburn. I am already not eating any citrus fruit, tamarind or tamarind-based foods, junk foods, oily foods, spicy foods, rich sweets and sodas. I also go for walking regularly twice, once in morning and once in evening.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

From the above mentioned diet, I presume that you do not eat any dal at all. If yes, start with light moong dal for your lunch and dinner along with vegetables. I do not recommend back to back ragi and oats. Avoid oats for time being, instead eat some other snacks.

For ulcer management, always start with bland diet and go back to normal diet. Of course, you need to avoid oily and rich foods. That is the ideal way of dealing the problem. You can eat idli/dosa or any other breakfast items also. It is always better to eat home cooked food than any other readymade food. As for your snack, you can drink ragi mixed with buttermilk also.

When exactly you get your pain? Please note that so we can change your diet accordingly. By 1:30-2, have your lunch. Do not sleep immediately after food. You can lie down for 1/2 hour by 3 PM. By 4-4:30, you can drink light tea with 2 biscuits. By 7, you can drink your ginger tea. Have your dinner by 8:30 PM. You can drink 200 ml of milk everyday for your calcium requirements. You can take any protein supplements at 4 PM also. Drink buttermilk everyday. Make it as 1 litre and finish for the whole day. Follow my advice for a week, and get back to me.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
