Hello doctor,
I recently had a sinus infection (2 weeks ago) and had taken antibiotics for five days. Now I have a persistent barky cough with exertion and trouble getting a deep breath. I also develop a cough while doing daily activities like talking, laughing, and climbing stairs. It feels like asthma exacerbation. I had a previous history of asthma attacks following a sinus infection, and at that time, the doctor suggested taking a Prednisone burst ( 60 mg) for five days to stop coughing. Currently, I am taking the following medications.
1. Advair 250/50.
2. Albuterol twice daily.
3. Birth control pills.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understand your concern.
I have gone through your detailed history, and from that, it is evident that this is an acute exacerbation of asthma. However, I want to know a few more things about your condition.
1. Do you have any allergies?
2. Have you undergone a pulmonary function test (PFT)?
Please reply to me with answers to the above-asked questions so I can better guide you about medicines and investigations.
I wish you good health.
Thank you.
Hello doctor,
Thank you for your reply.
I do not have allergies to any medications. I had a pulmonary function test 10 years back, and my FEV1/FEV values were normal. I was a college swimmer then, and my doctor thought it was normal because of my swimming.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
Considering your condition, I suggest you start taking Prednisone tablets for a short term, like 7 to 10 days. The dose will be 0.5 to 1 milligrams per kilogram. So you can take tablet Prednisone 60 mg for 7 to 10 days (consult your specialist doctor, talk with them and take medications with their consent). If the symptoms are still persistent, then better to get a pulmonary function test (PFT) done.
I hope I have solved your query.
Thank you.
Hello,
Thank you for your response.
Can you please send me a prescription for the drug?
Thank you.
