Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Was this delivery a planned C-section or initial normal delivery with follow up rescue C-section? This is important to know.

I am little concerned, is this blood coming in stools from anus or from the the vaginal opening after delivery. Some bleeding is common to occur via vaginal opening after delivery, however, if this bleeding is coming through stools via anal canal; I am afraid she possibly has received local injury to anal sphincter. Piles in medical terms called hemorrhoids cannot develop over a period of week or so, the patients with piles usually have on and off bleeding in stools chronically over a long time period before.

I suggest you to get her to the obstetrician who has performed the delivery and ask that your wife should be closely observed for per vaginal bleeding (which is not alarming) or injury to anal sphincter or perineal body (which is alarming) and then has to be seen by a gastroenterologist or a surgeon for further evaluation and management of the case. The injury to anal sphincter and perineal body has to repaired by combined surgery with general surgeon and obstetrician.

The Probable causes

Anal sphincter injury or perineal body tear Per vaginal spotting Retained products of conception

Regarding follow up

Follow up with your primary obstetrician.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
