Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 42-year-old female who weighs 177 pounds with a height of 5' 5. I got two pimples on my face two months ago. They are swollen and filled with fluid. I popped them several times, but they kept filling up with fluid. The pain is excruciating until they drain. This morning I woke up with another pimple on the other side of my face. And now, my face is extremely itchy. Kindly suggest a solution for this.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. It looks like an infected cystic lesion (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity). People with a history of acne usually develop these forms of cystic lesions. These lesions show a recurrent course and keep filling with pus even after drainage. So the treatment requires intralesional steroid injection with or without antibiotics. Taking oral antibiotics also helps. For an intralesional injection, you need to visit a Dermatologist. Meanwhile, I suggest you to follow the instructions mentioned below. Start with Doxycycline (Tetracycline antibiotic) 100 mg capsule once a day for two weeks. Kindly note that Doxycycline should be avoided in case of pregnancy and photosensitivity. Use regular sunscreens. Please do not try to squeeze the lesions, as it might increase inflammation. Kindly consult a specialist, talk with them and take the medications with their consent. Take care.
