Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My father's age is 80. My father's fasting sugar is 111 mg/dL and PP is 83 mg/dL. Is it considered normal? Why is the PP less than fasting sugar? Please help us with your kind advice.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Is he taking any medicines for lowering sugar? If not, the PP (postprandial) might be lower as it depends upon the calories taken in during breakfast and the amount of insulin produced by the body. Provided both are in the normal range and above 75 to 80, it does not matter. The fasting sugar is the sugar produced by our liver during the night to provide glucose to the brain and other organs even though we are not eating anything. Two suggestions as you have not mentioned much in the question: If he is diabetic, meet your doctor for dosage adjustment so that he does not get episodes of hypoglycemia. If he is not diabetic, you can let him have a heavy breakfast, it just means he needs more glucose or food.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
