Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My TSH levels are normal. I did three tests in a month so far, and the results were 0.7 mIU/mL, 1.4 mIU/mL, and 1.6 mIU/mL, though not in this order. Thyroid antibody tests were done twice in two weeks, and the results were TPO 134 IU/mL and Thyroglobulin 46.7 IU/mL during the first time, and the second time after stopping prenatal that contained biotin, the results were TPO 132 IU/mL and Thyroglobulin 58 IU/mL. The endocrinologist appointment is scheduled for the next month, but do you think I would need medication to treat this to conceive successfully? I had a miscarriage four months back at six weeks and a chemical pregnancy last month. Please give some advice to prevent miscarriages.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Your TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) levels are well below 2.5 mIU/mL which is enough to conceive. You do have antibodies that pose a risk to develop thyroid dysfunction anytime in the future if your lifestyle is disturbed by lack of sleep or infection. At this stage, additional thyroid treatment is not needed. However, there are some things you must do before getting pregnant. Test for lupus antibodies, protein C and protein S deficiency, and factor V. If these coagulation tests are abnormal then you might need treatment for these during pregnancy to prevent miscarriages. Also, you have to test your TSH levels during pregnancy every 6 to 8 weeks to see if your tests are normal.

Hope you feel better soon.
