Can Ovuloc LD help prevent pregnancy?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I had ovulation a few months back and got my period after that, and then I stopped taking the tablet then I had periods. I had unprotected sex. My husband and I do not want to have a baby. Should I start using the Ovuloc LD tablet from the fifth day of the period? I will be protected from pregnancy.

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Let me explain to you, usually, ovulation does occur on days 12,13,14, starting the count from the day you begin the menstrual cycle. Usually, when we suggest OCPs (oral contraceptive pills) in the form of estrogen or progesterone combined, we advise them to start on the second or fifth day of the menstrual cycle. Exogenous estrogen exerts negative feedback on the hypothalamus so inhibits GnRH (gonadotrophin-releasing hormone) release and then inhibits the pituitary release of FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) and LH (legitimizing hormone) then inhibits ovulation function. So do not worry I assure you that this will give you protection, but you have to know one thing every method of contraceptive has a failure chance of 1 % or less. However, the time you have started was good, I hope that may give you protection.

I hope this information will help you.

Thanks.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I was worried because I had not started the pills yet and today is my third day so you advised me to start on the fifth day. Since I had unprotected sex on the first and second days, still I will be protected.

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

You had unprotected sex on the first and second day, suppose pregnancy was taking place, your menstrual cycle would not come. If you had a menstrual cycle that means there is no pregnancy. The medicine will protect you when you have sexual intercourse within 72 hours duration, if it is more than 72 hours efficacy will be less. I assure you no pregnancy will take place.

I hope this information will help you.

Thanks.
