Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 18 years old with 5'6" in height and weight 295 lbs. I am eight weeks pregnant. I have not had any bleeding or cramping. I do not believe the baby is in my tubes because I have not had any pain. Why my baby cannot be seen on the ultrasound?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

The possibilities are,

1. Your periods previous to pregnancy was irregular, so what you count as eight weeks maybe less, need to wait and repeat scan after 7 to 10 days.

2. Pregnancy is not healthy. Only if the growth of the baby is normal, the rate of growth of the baby will be regular, and by eight weeks, you should be able to see the baby. You can confirm the health of the baby by checking the serum beta hCG, repeat it after 48 hours, and it should be doubled in 48 hours. For example, if today value is 100 mIU/ml, it will be 200 after 2 days and 400 after two more days. If the baby is not healthy, the rise will be less than that. So then repeat it till you can confirm no adequate growth. Only when the beta hCG value is 1500 mIU/mL can a baby be seen on the scan. Do not worry about tubal pregnancy, it will be seen as early as six weeks, and as you said, you would have symptoms much earlier. I hope I have clarified your query. Do write back if any more questions.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
