Is pregnancy possible after taking I-pill on ovulation day?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had unprotected sex today for less than 30 seconds, and there was no ejaculation. I took the morning-after pill within two hours. However, today is my ovulation day. Should I be concerned? Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

The menstrual irregularities you are experiencing could be due to a hormonal imbalance caused by the emergency contraceptive (I-pill). Since you took the pill within the recommended timeframe, the chances of pregnancy are extremely low.

The abdominal pain and white discharge you are noticing are common side effects of the i-pill. There is no need to be alarmed, as some individuals also experience withdrawal bleeding due to the sudden drop in hormone levels after taking the pill. These symptoms are generally temporary and should resolve on their own.

It is important to note that your next menstrual period may be unpredictable. Hormonal changes from the emergency contraceptive can cause your period to either come earlier than expected or be delayed by up to a week or more. This variation is normal and not usually a cause for concern.

In the meantime, monitor your symptoms and allow your body some time to return to its natural cycle. If your period is delayed by more than a week, it is advisable to take a home urine pregnancy test to rule out pregnancy with greater certainty.

I hope this helps.

Kindly revert so I can assist you further.

Thank you.
