Patient's Query

Hi doctor.

I am 24 years old. I am really scared when I saw a vein more prominent on the top of the penis. It does not cause any pain or irritation, but looks ugly. Is there any issue? What to do for this?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

This is absolutely normal and just a variant of anatomy. You do not need to worry. If the vein enlarges or become tortuous, then we can shrink it with sclerotherapy. There is nothing that needs to be done for now.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

But earlier it was not visible. Even if I put a finger on that vein and stretch it out, it vanishes. But after removing it appears again. Can masturbation be one of the reasons? And what should be done so it becomes as earlier it was? I am attaching pictures of before and after touching the portion with a finger. Kindly suggest.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have seen the attached pictures (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity). The superficial penile vein has grown and become a bit tortuous. It is normal to have the vein disappear or collapse once digital pressure is applied to block flow into the vein. It is unlikely that excessive masturbation will cause it. There is no medication to bring it back to normal as it is also normal only. Only surgical options are there but those are not indicated at present. My opinion is not to do anything for the vein at present.

Thank you.
