What is the best treatment option for a swollen prostate?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My prostates have been very much swollen since my childhood. I do not have any pain from my childhood. I went through an accident where a vessel of boiling water poured on me while I was playing with my sister when I was five years old. The trousers that I was wearing stuck to my pelvic region and from then on, my prostate has been swollen. I have two children and no issues with my sexual or reproductive health. But I am still concerned about its size, which is in the shape of an apple or larger. What should I do to fix this? I am almost 40 years old now. Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Given the history of having swollen scrotum since childhood, it can be hydrocele (accumulation of fluid in scrotum) or indirect inguinal hernia (a groin hernia in which abdominal contents, such as fat or bowel, bulge into the inguinal canal via the internal inguinal ring). While this can only be excluded while doing clinical examination and ultrasound in the inguinoscrotal region (the area of the body that includes the groin and the lower part of the anterior abdominal wall),.Have you ever consulted a urologist (kidney specialist) or general surgeon doctor? If it is increasing in size and having symptoms like pain in the area, it needs to be treated by surgery.Surgical treatment will depend on it after reaching a definitive diagnosis.

So, my recommendation is to see a urologist or general surgeon for a clinical examination, or to have an ultrasound of the inguinoscrotal region, and then discuss the results with me. After which, we can consider the best possible surgical approach.

I hope this helps.

Thank you, and take care.

Regards.
