As I was doing medical examination, I discovered that I have enlarged prostate, and my urine retention rate is high. Kindly help me.

I have read your query and understand your concern.The prostate gland can be enlarged in patients above 50 years of age and is treatable with medicines, but might need some tests like uroflowmetry and serum PSA (prostrate-specific antigen) test. I suggest you take Tablet Tamsulosin 0.4 mg one tablet at night for 30 days and get back to me with results for follow-up once the tests are done.

I did not know the PSA is relating to the enlarged prostate but did a serum PSA test as part of the medical check-up and I have attached the report. Also, I need to know if this can affect sexual performance as recently I experienced decreased libido and erection. Kindly guide.

I have gone through your reports (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity),and the serum PSA is normal. An enlarged prostate does not affect libido. However, suppose you have a loss of libido and erectile dysfunction. In that case, you will need evaluation for serum testosterone level. And you will need to review whether you are on medication for hypertension or any other medicine for the long term. Also, check if you have diabetes. Determine your body weight, height, and lipid profile. Please get these tests done and kindly revert.
