Patient's Query

Hello,

Sir, my wife, got a scratch near her forehead, but there is no visible blood. She cannot determine the exact cause of the scratch, but it might be due to the branches of trees in our garden. Some bats are staying near my house. If the scratch is by any bat in the worst case, does she require an anti-rabies vaccine? Do bats cause rabies? I do not know whether I am getting paranoid about rabies.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern. However, you need not worry about rabies or other infection. Be relaxed and calm. I suggest giving her a TT (tetanus toxoid) injection, and there is no need for a rabies vaccine.

I hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. I wish good health to your wife. Thanks.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I saw on the internet that bats are not rabies carriers. But one local doctor told me that jackals are the forefathers of bats, so she should take the rabies vaccine. So I was worried and thought to ask an expert.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

She does not need the anti-rabies vaccine. So I would suggest only TT.

I hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. I wish good health to your wife. Thanks.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
