Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have taken anti-rabies vaccine before seven months. I started a booster dose for rabies last month and will be completing my fifth dose this month. Am I overdosing with the anti-rabies vaccine as I have already taken five doses before seven months? I am feeling pain in the wrist and fingers from yesterday. Is it related to overdose, or can it be a regular sprain? Please guide.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I will need a few more points. Did you have an exposure after the first exposure? Or are you a pet who is exposed to frequent bites from animals? If not then why did you start the booster dose? Booster dose is not usually recommended. Only repeat doses are recommended if there is a re-exposure of Class II or Class III bite after three months. Even then, you need to take only on days 0, 3, 7, and the fourth between 14 and 28. It is unlikely that you will develop an overdose on the vaccine.

However, you may keep a watch on your symptoms and visit a neurologist if there is any weakness or numbness. Minor pain is unrelated to the vaccine.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I did not have any exposure but doubted an exposure. So I decided to take a booster dose. I have completed four doses 0, 3, 7, and 14.

I started feeling pain in the wrist, fingers, and some muscles in the shoulders and elbow two days back (after 18 days from the first vaccine). Are joints and muscle pain I need to be worried about and are these anyway related to the vaccine? And for how many days should I look for these symptoms to contact? I do not have weakness or numbness as such. Any specific symptoms I need to look for? Should I not take the fifth vaccine?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

When you went for the second course of the vaccines? Did you tell them that you had been vaccinated before seven months and about the type of doubtful exposure you had? If it was a Class I exposure, these vaccine shots were not needed. Joint pain and muscle pain can be related to the vaccine. You should consult a physician and let him examine you. A proper clinical examination is required.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Yes, I informed. I will get myself checked. I want to seek your opinion about how long can I wait to get relieved from pain? Can it be resolved on its own? Can it be permanent damage?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

No, it is not permanent damage. It will not cause any significant damage also. But, yes, I would suggest a clinical examination by a physician is better.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

My last question, within how many days should it be resolved? Can we predict?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Do not worry. It will be resolved in a week.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
