Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I had excess blood loss due to piles. Last week, my hemoglobin was 5.1 g/dL. After taking a unit of blood, my hemoglobin levels increased to 6.2 g/dL Also, my RBC count was 3.29 million/cmm, which increased to 4.59 million/cmm. Currently, I am using tablet Daflon, syrup Duphalac, tablet Livogen, and tablet Tranexa. My bleeding has subsided after taking medications, water, and juice.
Kindly advise.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern. I have reviewed your recent reports (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity). You have severe iron deficiency anemia due to blood loss. You still need to be given RBC infusions or iron injections. I suggest you take iron-rich foods and follow your doctor's advice. Parameters like PCV (packed cell volume), Hb (hemoglobin), RDW (red cell distribution width), and RBC (red blood cell) count have improved.
I hope this helps.
Kindly revert in case of further doubts.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Thank you for the response.
Is there an urgency for RBC infusions, or can I get recovered with only iron injections? Also, I am taking iron-rich foods, soft foods, and medicines.
Kindly advise.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
Iron injections are effective for the treatment of iron deficiency anemia. However, RBC infusion is preferred over iron injections if bleeding continues due to piles. Also, you can continue taking iron-rich foods and tablets.
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
