Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am having severe hair fall for the past two to three years. The front hairlines are receding. I am 20 years old and is it advisable to have a transplant at this age or can it be prevented by consulting the doctor?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

I have gone through the information provided from your end including the image from the attached reports (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity). Receding hairline along with loss of stands of hair is quite common and is usually refer to as male pattern hair loss which can be due to multiple reasons and can be most importantly caused by hormonal variations which may also be triggered in case of genetics susceptibility where there is male pattern hair loss within your family especially from maternal end, due to vitamin and mental deficiencies, due to stress, due to using of hair products including gels creams, due to presence of dandruff and due to any other underlying medical conditions. Since you are really young, it is usually advised to wait till after 25 years of age for undergoing a hair transplant procedure especially for areas on your scalp which is more smooth and shiny where the hair roots are mostly lost. Your hair seems to be thinner with scalp visibility more than having loss of hair roots and can be stimulated for hair growth with medications along with procedures which can be done. In areas which are smooth and shiny which depicts loss of hair roots, you may wait till after 25 years of age for hair transplant consultation and for undergoing the procedure required at that point of time.

My advice:

  1. Minichek F 5 % solution (Minoxidil and Finasteride solution): Apply half a teaspoon of the solution which is available in spray and dropper form on a clean dry scalp on the affected area and massage to the scalp at night, leave it overnight and wash it off in the morning. Make sure to use it continuously for at least one year and following one year, they can be reduced to six days per week for the next six months and later reduced to five days per week for the next six months, and so on. It is necessary to slowly reduce the usage of the solution rather than abruptly stop as abrupt stopping can lead to sudden hair loss.
  2. Tablet Follihair (The salts Biotin, Iron, l-cysteine, Manganese, Copper, Selenium, L-lysine, Zinc, DL-methionine, Calcium Pantothenate, Niacinamide) new once daily after dinner may be consumed for three months.
  3. Anaboom (Propylene Glycol, Aqua, Butylene Glycol and Aqua) anti-hair fall serum: half teaspoon of the serum needs to be applied in the affected area in the morning on a clean dry scalp and massaged into the scalp which can be then washed off in the evening. Make sure to use them for at least one year for best results
  4. PRP (platelet rich plasma) scalp treatment: This is a great procedure that can be done at a dermatologist's clinic. In this procedure, around 2 to 2.5 teaspoon of your blood sample would be extracted and spun in a centrifugal machine which helps in separating the growth factors which is already present in your normal blood sample which is then injected into your scalp using a very small insulin syringe. This is a procedure that helps in hair growth stimulation, helps to thicken hair density, and is usually done once a month for at least six months which makes it a total of six sessions. This treatment when done along with the usage of the above medication provides the best result for reducing further hair loss and for thickening the current hair.
  5. Make sure to eat healthily and have a high-protein diet. I hope I could be of help.

Stay happy, healthy, and safe.

Take care.
