Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have increased ringing in both ears. I have been diagnosed with post nasal drip. The left ear feels blocked and the left side of the throat feels clogged as well. I had taken antibiotics on the prescription but that is not working. My ear testing results were normal.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Your problem seems to be due to sinusitis. Sinusitis itself can cause clogged feelings in the throat or sinusitis can cause secondary pharyngitis which can cause throat problems. Do you have a headache or nose block or excessive sneezing? I will want you to send me a clear picture of your throat where I can see your tonsils and posterior pharyngeal wall. Also, please let me know the name of the medicines you have been taking and also the duration. I am enabling free follow up. Please revert back.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I was asked to take 10 mg Solvin once in the morning and one in the night for 10 days. Also, I was given saline spray and recommended steam inhalation for 21 days.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Solvin is not an antibiotic it is a decongestant, plus the picture is not clear at all. Neck picture is not needed (attachment removed to protect patient identity). Also, I need to know if you have a nose block, headache or sneezing? Only when I know your symptoms completely I can give you symptomatic treatment. Your ear problem is secondary to nose or throat problem but send me a clear picture of your throat (not neck).

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I used to have a sore throat but that is not there any more now. My left side of the ear and throat is blocked and I have a continuous flow of mucus. Sometimes I feel like it is plugged and my throat becomes very dry. Soon after I steam, it starts running at the back of my throat again. I do not have a headache or sneezing. My complaint right now is the ringing in my ears which is not letting me sleep at night.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

You continue Solvin (Phenylephrine) for a week. Stop saline spray and start using Flutiflo (Fluticasone) nasal spray two puffs in each nostril twice daily for a month. You can continue steam inhalation, but add a capsule Karvol plus in hot water and then do the inhalation. If your symptoms does not subside within a week that is the ringing in the ears is persistent, then you will have to get hearing evaluation and nasal endoscopy done.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
