Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had a ringworm infection with ring-shaped rashes in my chest, ear, and in and around my genitals. The ringworm rashes started due to sharing towels with my brother with the same problem. I have taken Terbinafine tablets (antifungal medication) for the past 50 days for my ringworm infection. I stopped the tablets as the rashes, and the symptoms of ringworm infection went away. But, two days after stopping the tablets, I got itching in the same places with the rashes. What should I do?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

I understand your concern. Several factors, such as sweating, humidity, friction, diabetes, family members with ringworm infection, and contact with pets, promote fungus infection. I suggest you to follow a few instructions mentioned below.

  1. Strictly control the factors that could aggravate the fungal infection, to prevent fungal resistance that may increase the duration of treatment required.
  2. Wash your clothes separately and let them dry properly.
  3. Continue tablet Terbinafine (anti-fungal medication) for three more weeks.
  4. Do not change medicine without consulting with a specialist, as it could lead to the fungus developing resistance.
  5. Apply Clotrimazole (anti-fungal medication) cream.

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
