Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Four months before, I had a root canal treatment and the file was broken inside the tooth. So, I went to another doctor and after a month of treatment, he said the file has been removed. Now, I feel a very light sensation in the tooth. I went to a new dentist as I could not contact the old one. The new one took an x-ray and informed me that the broken file is still present inside the tooth. I want to know whether the broken file causes a serious health issue to me. Will this instrument travel to some other part of my mouth or somewhere if left untreated?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

The broken file piece will never cause a problem for you and will never travel to any other region of the mouth or body. If the tooth does not have any pain, then there is no need for any worries as the file has got stuck (locked) inside the canal. So, it will remain there forever. If the tooth gets infected due to improper cleaning of root canal (caused by broken file), then you may need to extract the tooth. Please wait for a few months and see if the pain or discomfort is increased. If it does pain, then go back to the dentist who did it and ask for a refund and extraction of the tooth. If you have an x-ray, then send a picture to me for better understanding. Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
