Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

For the past two weeks, I have a weird sensation in my left ear. Initially, it was hearing less but now it got started to happen more frequently for the past two days and I have fluttering sounds. I went to the urgent care and I was diagnosed with a ruptured eardrum. Now, I am using drops to heal it. I am paranoid and scared. I have bad anxiety and it is getting worse. How can I stop hearing these fluttering sounds? I want to return back to normal. I do not know the cause behind it. I am afraid of developing vertigo because dizziness makes me feel ill.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

You are having left ear tympanic perforation and so you will feel the discomfort. Most of the tympanic perforation will get healed spontaneously. It is good to avoid putting anything in the ears because it can lead to an ear infection. As you do not have a decrease in hearing loss, ear discharge, vertigo and so you will get better soon. There is nothing to be worried and your symptoms will disappear soon. Prevent having entry of water in ears. Do not blow your nose forcefully. Try to ignore hearing the sound by doing other activities such as watching television and hearing music. Avoid hearing loud music and using earphones. You can take tablet Betahistidine 8 mg twice a day while having vertigo or a severe ringing sensation in the ears. You need to go to the hospital while having a watery discharge or ear discharge or severe vertigo.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
