Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My 9-year-old niece is having fever, abdominal pain, and appetite loss. She was admitted to the hospital yesterday. And tests reports for dengue, malaria, typhoid, abdomen ultrasound were normal. Her urine analysis showed the presence of pus and epithelial cells. After seeing her urine reports and SARS-CoV-2 antibody, the doctor suggested doing CT of the abdomen and blood tests for D-dimer, ferritin, and IL-6. Her CRP is also normal.

1) What can be the cause of her fever and abdomen pain?

2) What is the significance of the SARS antibody?

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for writing, and I understand your concern.

All the parameters in her report are normal except low WBCs, which indicates a viral infection. And a few pus cells in urine suggests urinary tract infection. So, her abdominal pain can be related to that.

On the other hand, anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies (IgG antibody responsible for Coronavirus disease) indicates that she might have had COVID (Coronavirus Disease) infection recently. As she has developed antibodies against COVID, it is clear that she was infected recently.

Thank you.
