Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Are violent video games and other visual entertainment terrible for people with schizophrenia, or does it depend from person to person? For example, I possibly have mild to medium schizophrenia that manifests in foolish and intrusive thoughts. I did not observe being affected by violent video games, but I observed that the illness came into action when I watched violent movies. Also, I observed that the violence was not a direct factor but rather an indirect one. I observed the film's intense action and was palpitant and guilty because I watched that movie when I knew I was not supposed to watch it. This affected me, but I discovered how to control this behavior with the help of my medicine. I indeed had aggressive thoughts, but it was because of irritations, frustration, guilt, uneasiness, and others. So do you think violent visual entertainment creates an impact on schizophrenia? Kindly suggest.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for consulting with us. A person who has schizophrenia has difficulty differentiating between virtual and real life. People suffering from mild symptoms will not have any problem with video games or violent movies. However, a schizophrenic patient gets violent when he has auditory hallucinations or delusions. I hope that you get my point. Please let me know if you want some help.

Thanks and regards.
