Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 25-year-old female. I had my first seizure three years ago. I have put on Levetiracetam 500 mg, but eventually, my seizure continued two seizures per year until today. But last year, my dose was increased to 750 mg, but seizures are the same i.e., two seizures per year. I did EEG and sleep-deprived EEG, which were normal for three years.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

You have recurrent seizures for the last three years, and you had two years in the preceding year. You fall into the category of uncontrolled seizures. Though your EEG (electroencephalography) is normal, no mention of any CT or MRI head is mentioned.

I presume you have generalized tonic-clonic seizures that are sudden loss of consciousness with tonic-clonic jerking of the limbs. If there is anything to add, please let me know. You mentioned your weight as 27.67 kg for 5 feet 5 inches in height. It is too low, or is it a typo error? I need to clarify it.

Levetiracetam is a broad-spectrum antiepileptic drug and is good, but if I can clear the doubts about your weight. Maybe have to increase the dose or add another medication. Please clarify your weight.

Treatment plan

Plan to increase Leviteracetam after confirming weight.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Sorry, it was a mistake. My weight is 61 kg.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

As the other things remain the same, I feel there is a need to increase the dose to 500 mg twice a day, a total of 1000 mg/day. I hope that much should be enough. Anyway, nothing to get unduly worried about. The maximum dose is 3000 gm/day. So we have a lot of latitudes.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
