Hello doctor,

Consuming the Veltam Plus medication for the past two months while having sex with the partner prevents sperm from emerging, which is dangerous. Please advise if it will be normal for me to stop taking my medication or if I should see my doctor. Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Please help me with a few details. Did you consult a urologist before starting this tablet? Was the decision to start this medication based on an ultrasound and uroflowmetry test? And now, to answer your question, yes, this tablet does cause something called retrograde ejaculation - which means that while you have an orgasm, the semen does not come out - instead, it goes back into the bladder. This is a known side effect of this medication and reverses when the drug is stopped. However, it is not advisable to stop the medication as your urine flow will worsen. Some other tablets are available, which may help.

Thank you and take care.

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

Yes, tests for uroflowmetry and ultrasonography were performed before the medication was started. If it is a common occurrence, please let me know if I may continue or if I need to see the doctor again. Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Yes, this is a known side effect of the drug. There is nothing to worry about. There is another similar drug called Alfusin D (Alfuzosin (10 mg)) which is almost identical to Veltam Plus (Tamsulosin (0.4 mg)) but reduces the chances of retrograde ejaculation. Should wanting to ejaculate be a significant concern to you, you can switch to this medication. Please understand once a patient is on alpha-blockers, they may have to take them for the rest of their lives.

I hope I have answered your question.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards.
