Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My SGPT ALT test shows a value of 13 compared to the recommended value of 16 to 63 U/L.What does it indicate? I have chronic constipation.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

I understand your concern. I have reviewed your attached reports, and ALT is slightly below the normal range. But there is nothing to be worried about. Liver function tests are usually checked to see whether they are raised. Increased levels of these tests suggested liver inflammation. In your case, there is no liver inflammation, so there is nothing to worry about regarding your liver function test results.

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

Noted that it should not be high. But when the reports indicate the minimum recommended value and the test results show it is lower than the minimum value, does it indicate any abnormality considering I have other issues I have mentioned, like constipation, lactose issue, weight loss, etc.?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

I understand your concern. Levels below normal, with normal serum albumin levels, are not of any medical concern. Regarding your issues like constipation, lactose issues, and weight loss. The above three are not associated with low ALT levels by any means. But, weight loss itself is not a good sign, especially unintentional weight loss. If you are losing weight, it should be evaluated with good detailed history, physical examination, and laboratory investigations. Your below-normal ALT is not the underlying cause.

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.
