Patient's Query

Hello doctor.

My close friend is a 21-year-old male. He is an occasional smoker (and does not exercise much). For some time, he has been experiencing shortness of breath while lying down. This does not occur every single day or every time he lays down, but sometimes. Very rarely (I think only once), he also had very, very mild chest pain. This only occurs when he is lying down and not when he is asleep. Also, these symptoms are relieved when he tries to blow his nose and get back to sleep afterward. This has started worrying us. Please guide us.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com. Thanks for your question. I can understand your concern. I have gone through the detailed history you have given. In my opinion, he should undergo few reports like chest X-ray, electrocardiogram (ECG), and 2D echo to rule out heart and lung diseases. Better to quit smoking as early as possible. If all these reports are normal, then no need to worry. I hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. I wish you good health. Thanks.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thanks for the reply. What are the chances of him having any disease, and what disease?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com. Yes, possibility of bronchitis is more likely. It is better to get chest X-ray, electrocardiogram (ECG), pulmonary function test and 2D echo (echocardiography) done.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
