Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I had flipped the condom before having sex as I had put it the wrong way. Also, I urinated for a few minutes back. Can my partner get pregnant by this? Please explain me.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Pregnancy is very unlikely in the given scenario.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Let me elaborate the situation. There was some precum initially and then I urinated. After a couple of minutes, I put on the condom and realized that it was the wrong way. Then I flipped the head and put it in the correct way. I also wiped some of the lubricant with my hand, from the head of the condom and then I had sex. Are there any chances of pregnancy here? Also, is it worth going for a plan B say contraceptive pills in this case. It has been around 24 hours since sex. In case if she misses her next periods, is there any way to stop her pregnancy? Is now the best time to take any precautions? I would also like to mention that it has been around 16 days since my partner had her last periods. Please suggest me.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Is it the time of ovulation for your partner? Precum is normally very rich in sperm concentration, making pregnancy theoretically possible. But, keep in mind that the lubricant of condom is spermicidal and practically pregnancy is highly unlikely if there was no other mistake. Regarding plan B, it can be taken up to 72 hours after unprotected sex. So, your partner can take it right now to avoid pregnancy. If she does not want to take plan B and in rare case period misses and gets pregnant. In this case, she can opt for abortion through medicines at the earliest diagnosis of pregnancy. But of course, this should be your second choice, first being that of plan B I-pill has to be taken right now. As I already told, chance of pregnancy is very low in the scenario as you described.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Would you recommend going to plan B at this stage? In fact, what are the side effects of plan B, especially the ones which might affect the reproductive capacity in future? Please explain.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, I would recommend plan B at this stage. Practically, there is no long-term side effect on reproduction or any other system of the body. Short term side effects like mildgastritis, nausea, vomiting, early period of this cycle and may be next one or two cycles are generally manageable and acceptable. So, she can go ahead with it. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her and take the further step.

Thank you.
