Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have had a disturbed sleep for the past two to three weeks. I wake up between sleep every two hours, after which I struggle to fall asleep again. I wake up in the morning with a headache and a bad mood. I consulted a doctor and took a blood test for iron deficiency, which was normal. He advised me to take melatonin which I did, but the condition remained the same. I also tried remedies like Chamomile, no screen, cold room, no light, etc. But I was still facing the same issue of waking up and having difficulties going back to sleep. Will a strong sleeping pill help better the condition? Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

What you are describing is known as difficulty in maintaining sleep. Considering that you have tried common remedies, I would suggest tablet Zolpidem sustained release 12.5 mg or 10 mg or tablet Eszopiclone 1 to 2 mg can also be used as an alternative to Zolpidem. These medicines are usually helpful for transient sleep difficulties and could also help fix your sleep schedule. If these do not help much, it would be worthwhile to see a psychiatrist and rule out a depressive or anxiety disorder, as these are common causes of sleep difficulties. For example, suppose depression is the cause of your sleep issues. In that case, you might need antidepressants like Amitriptyline or Mirtazapine to treat the underlying depression and improve the symptom of poor sleep.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
