Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am taking Levetiracetam 500 mg for brain injury. Can I take a sleeping tablet-like Restavit or Melatonin along with it?

Answered by Dr. Aida Abaz Quka

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Yes, you can take Melatonin or Restavit (Doxylamine) for having good sleep while taking Levetiracetam. There is no need to worry about it.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I read that sleeping tablets can increase the chance of getting seizures.

Answered by Dr. Aida Abaz Quka

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Sleeping pills like Melatonin do not cause seizures. Lack of sleep can trigger seizures. So good sleep is necessary for an epileptic patient and you can get it with the help of Melatonin or any herbal supplements. Instead of Melatonin, you can also take Clonazepam which is used to treat epilepsy and sleep disorders. You can take tablet Clonazepam 1 or 2 mg at bedtime to get good sleep.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
