I have never masturbated before, and now I feel my penis is smaller than my male peers. Is it because of refraining from masturbation?

Q. Would not practicing masturbation affect the size of the penis in a 19-year-old male?

Hello doctor,

I am 19 years old, 5 feet 4 inches tall, circumcised, and slightly overweight, but with no known health problems. Growing up, I was instructed not to masturbate nor touch my penis other than briefly wash it. I have been quite proud that I have never masturbated though I have been tempted at times. But recently, upon entering college, I have made friends who all say it is weird that I do not masturbate. In the locker room showers, I have seen that my penis is the smallest of all my peers. My male friends tell me my penis is tiny because I do not use it to masturbate. I would normally not care, but they all have large penises and told me they masturbate. I am afraid my penis is small because I have never masturbated before. Now I do not know what to do or who to believe. Is never masturbating the reason why my penis is so small? What if I cannot please my future partner? What should I do?

Please help me.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query and understood your concern.

First, masturbation is a safe habit; it is normal to masturbate once or twice a week. Even it is normal if anyone masturbates daily. Size has no role in sexual pleasure. If your erection is normal, then there is no need to get worried. Some people have relatively larger sizes in the flaccid states some have smaller. This is normal. If your erection is normal, then remain relaxed. Masturbation does not increase the size. Size depends upon genetics, race, growth factors, etc. So do not feel guilty. You are normal. You can masturbate if you find it comfortable or not. That depends upon your will.

I hope this has helped you out.

Take care.
