Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have extreme anxiety and depression. Anxiety is related to the workplace. I find it hard to go to work and have palpitations, sweating, chest tightness, and tremors while around a certain individual at the workplace. I have had anxiety and panic attacks ever since I can remember. I have always been fearful around people, especially the ones who intend harm. I have just started taking Escitalopram 10 mg daily. Kindly help me.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your problem. A lot of individuals have anxiety, but fortunately, this can be treated with medicines and psychological methods. You have mentioned that you have anxiety at the workplace. You have a feeling of uneasiness when you are around people who intend harm. This could be part of social anxiety. Do you have a feeling of uneasiness when you talk with unknown persons too? Do you feel that this anxiety is resulting in the loss of your work? Do you have anticipation about anxiety-provoking events even when you are relaxing at home? These are symptoms of social anxiety.

Relaxation exercises like breath-holding exercises, meditation, yoga, etc., help boost confidence and thus help ease anxiety. Drugs like SSRIs (Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) like Escitalopram or Fluoxetine, etc., can be used to reduce anxiety. Drugs like Etizolam can be used on SOS (as and when required) basis in anxiety-provoking events. Even in places where you feel anxious, the drug will work. You can talk with a psychiatrist for a detailed prescription.

I hope this was helpful.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
