Sonotubometry

Sonotubometery is a tool used to measure the changes in the eustachian tube (ET) and ventilatory functions using sound. Frequent opening of the ET will allow ventilation in the middle ear and equilibration of pressure changes. The contraction of the paratubal muscles accomplishes this during swallowing. If there is a disturbance in the ventilatory function of the ET, it can lead to the development of otitis media with effusion. Therefore, it is essential to analyze the ET function. Sonotubometry will detect whether the ET can open or not during swallowing actions.
