Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My period got delayed for 11 days and yesterday, I had some spotting. It is unusual for me as I have regular periods. I do not have any cramps and my flow is not heavy. Sometimes I have dizziness. I did a pregnancy test and it showed me a negative result. Is there any possibility for me to be pregnant?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

As your pregnancy test was negative, you have a less likely chance to be pregnant. In view of false-negative results, you can do a blood test called serum beta-hCG (human chorionic gonadotrophin) to confirm it. Sometimes, your cycles can get delayed due to hormonal changes, stress, weight gain, alteration in diet patterns, and hypothyroidism. If this irregularity continues in the subsequent cycles, you can do an ultrasound pelvis to rule out the cause. If it is impossible to do a blood test, you can repeat the urine pregnancy test in the morning again.

The Probable causes

You can have delayed cycles due to hormonal changes.

Investigations to be done

You need to do serum beta-hCG (human chorionic gonadotrophin), TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone), and ultrasound pelvis if the irregularity gets continued.

Probable diagnosis

You can have it due to hormonal changes.
