Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I wore a new undergarment and I had just shaved. There were some open cuts in the skin. About an hour later I started panicking because in case this undergarment had been tried by someone else and returned as there is a policy in online shopping. What are the chances of me contracting sexually transmitted diseases or hepatitis. The undergarment looked clean with no stains. Can you please suggest me on this?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and I understand your concern. The chances of you contracting the infection from an undergarment are almost nil. I will state the reasons for this. First of all, the bacteria and viruses die within 72 hours after coming in contact with a cloth surface. Even if it was infected, the infection would have gone as I am sure you would have received the undergarment 72 hours after someone wore it.

Secondly, chances of you receiving a used undergarment from a good online shopping site is less.

Thirdly, it is not necessary that the cuts in the skin came in contact with that part of the undergarment which carried the infection.

I hope this was helpful.

Regards.
