Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I ate pancakes with honey in the morning and had a glass of wine during lunch four days ago. And in the evening, I had probiotics yogurt, and that night I was throwing up and running to the bathroom nearly a hundred times. It has been three days since then; I still have discomfort in my stomach. I do not have an appetite, and I could hardly eat one banana, a little rice. Within a week, I lost 2 kilograms. I was weighing 104 lbs, and by now, I am 101.4 lbs. Yesterday I had some mashed potatoes with herbal tea, and today I had to run to the restroom two to three times. I do feel nauseous since day one but no throwing up. I have random poops and lost my appetite.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I am so sorry to hear that you have been through these miserable times.

The issue you are experiencing is stomach flu, which we call acute gastroenteritis in medical terms. It means inflammation of the stomach and bowel. Now, this predominant loss of appetite, vomiting, and feeling full is due to stomach slowness, which is common after any acute gastroenteritis. It takes some time before it can completely go down. Even though you have not been back to normal, the severity of the symptoms must be tapering down, and you would feel good day by day.

I suggest you take a soft diet home-cooked and avoid milk, alcoholic drinks, and spicy meals.

Take capsule Esomeprazole (proton pump inhibitor) 40 mg with the brand name Nexium or any other brand available over the counter, once daily, 30 minutes before taking breakfast.

Use probiotics with the brand name of Ecotec or any other probiotic which contains lactobacillus species and take it twice daily till your symptoms completely subsides.

Take fruits of all sorts, but avoid milkshakes, fruit juices, and sugary drinks commercially available.

I hope you will be fine very soon in few days.

Take care.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
