Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 22 years old doing my master's degree. I have good academic records and got placed in a good company for internship but I am mentally stressed. Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

As per your description, I understand that you mean to say you are facing severe stress despite being well placed academically and career wise. There could be more than one way of being stressed. If your stress is actually excessive and uncontrollable which affects your work, sleep, appetite and other aspects of life, then, you are probably suffering from generalized anxiety disorder. If you feel sad or have lost interest in work, feel guilty, unable to concentrate or take decisions and also feel pessimistic about your future, then it could be a sign of depression. If your stress is in the form of one or few recurrent and distressing thought, it could be a sign of obsessive-compulsive disorder. As you can see, there are different ways of being stressed, each being a sign of a different mental illness. Treatment changes depending on the underlying condition. So, you will have to describe your complaint in sufficient detail along with information such as duration of illness, family history of mental illness, any comorbid medical condition and current ability to function. So that I can help you better. Thank you.
